The Reading XP is an international interactive reading experience that brings students a new featured story every month. Each edition combines cinematic storytelling, meaningful themes and ideas that matter to today's generation.

Instead of reading a PDF, an eBook or another traditional educational platform, students experience each story directly on their phones through cinematic chat-style conversations with messages, images, GIFs, stickers and sound in a format that feels natural to today's generation.

Students are not simply presented with another traditional reading format. The story unfolds through a cinematic, conversation-driven experience.

Every month, students from participating schools read the same featured story, complete the same Reading Comprehension Assessment and see how their performance compares internationally.

Every participant receives an individual comprehension score. Schools receive a Reading Comprehension Snapshot of their participating group, while eligible students and schools can also compete in the international rankings.

PISA 2025 · RESULTS PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 2026

The reading challenge is global.
And the latest results demand attention.

PISA 2025 recorded the lowest average reading performance ever observed across OECD countries. Between 2015 and 2025, average reading performance fell by 28 points — approximately equivalent to one and a half years of learning.

The findings also point to growing challenges around sustained attention, careful reading, evaluating information and connecting ideas across texts and sources.

At Mezel Education, we believe the response cannot simply be: “Read more.” As PISA 2025 brings renewed international attention to reading performance, we believe students need new reasons to read carefully, understand deeply and stay engaged with what they read.

There is no single required format: some schools experience the featured story together in the classroom, some invite students to explore it at home, and others use advisory, library time, a reading break or a special schoolwide moment.

Each month introduces a new interactive Reading Experience with its own availability window, allowing your school to participate without changing the curriculum, academic priorities or existing activities.

01 In The Classroom Teachers can bring students into the story together and make space for a short discussion after key moments.
02 At Home Schools can invite students and families to experience the featured story beyond the classroom during its monthly availability window.
03 During The School Day Use homeroom, advisory, library time, a reading break or another moment that already exists in your schedule.

Every month, schools enter a new Interactive Story, students complete a Reading Comprehension Assessment, receive individual results and contribute to a School Reading Comprehension Snapshot.

Students enter the month's featured interactive story and follow the characters, clues, ideas and details from beginning to end.

MEASURE WHAT YOU UNDERSTOOD

After completing the story, each participant enters a reading comprehension challenge built around what they just experienced.

COMPETE

Each student receives a score and competes in the individual ranking, while eligible schools also compete in the international school ranking.

A school may enter from 1 to 25 students in each monthly challenge. Every participant can compete individually. Schools with at least three completed eligible assessments also qualify for the School Ranking, calculated from their three highest eligible scores.

Pit Gragen's Strange World

The featured story for the first RXP Monthly Reading Challenge: a cinematic reading adventure about artificial intelligence, purpose and what it means to stay human.

Pit Gragen is twelve years old, curious, restless and quietly afraid of becoming ordinary. Then, one night, his phone begins showing symbols that should not exist.

Moments later, Pit is pulled into the future. There, he meets the adult versions of his closest friends and discovers a world transformed by artificial intelligence—not because machines replaced people, but because young people learned to use creativity, empathy and courage to solve real problems.

This is not a story about technology replacing humanity. It is a story about students discovering that technology becomes meaningful only when human beings use it with purpose.

Students are growing up in a world that is changing faster than most adults can explain.

Artificial intelligence is already shaping how students learn, create, communicate and imagine their futures. But students need more than warnings about technology or lessons about how to use it.

They need space to ask deeper questions: What kind of person am I becoming? What problem do I care enough to help solve? What can artificial intelligence help us do—and what can it never replace?

Pit Gragen gives schools a powerful and emotionally accessible way to begin that conversation. Instead of presenting AI as a technical subject, the story places it inside a human journey of identity, friendship, family, gratitude, inclusion, courage and purpose.
